Welcome to Flamingo Glass Studio

I've always had a love affair with glass. I taught stained glass for 22 years and when I retired from my "day job I planned to study the art of glass blowing. The fascinating colours and shapes were irresistible to me. While I had the opportunity in Crawford Bay, in the Kootenays, to do a small amount of this I soon learned how extensive a studio I'd need. Almost immediately I "discovered" lamp working - the art of creating glass beads in an open flame and I've been hooked ever since.

I use an extensive colour range of glass rods imported from Italy, Germany, and Japan. The process of melting the glass in an open flame is exciting, and truly meets my desire to work with molten glass. Each bead is created one at a time , by hand, without the use of molds. They're each their own little work of art and although similar ones can be made, the nature of each piece ensures its uniqueness. Following the bead creation each one is heat annealed to ensure durability and strength.

Once the annealing is complete, the holes are cleaned and I can begin the exciting step of assembling the designs. Although I work primarily with silver findings, I also use leather and silk cords for stringing. The addition of semi precious stones, pearls and Swarovski crystals blend perfectly with my beads. I also incorporate fused glass pieces in some of my work, giving another dimension to a piece.

I'm blessed with a very supportive husband who created a studio for me in the wooded area of our home in South Surrey. This allows me the solitude in which to work as well as an attractive showroom where my clients can spend time choosing a new piece or two or to be involved in the design of a custom make piece.
